Ya know how people will say, "Oh, I love art! But, I really can't draw people." That is so common! But, growing up, I ONLY drew people--therefore they were easy to me. I practiced them most. On the other hand, if you asked me to draw an animal, I froze. When all the other girls with their Lisa Frank trapper-keepers were drawing beautiful unicorns, I'm over here with something that looks like a large, crappy dog. A dog with a horn coming out of it's head. And rainbow hair. Really, as I've figured out later, with animals and people and nature and buildings and unicorns--nothing is inherently "easier" or "harder" to draw (everything is just made up of shapes and lines!)--it just matters which one you've practiced the most. And what intimidates you less and what you care enough to work at. Now, after many art classes in college, now I CAN draw pretty much anything. And I'm glad! But--I always go back to people. :) I get the most satisfaction from portraits. The human face is endlessly interesting to me.
Here is a head drawing from school...it was actually a quick exercise and I wish I could have polished it more while I had the model sitting in front of me! But I'm still happy with it. :)

This is a charcoal drawing of a girl who modeled for my head drawing class at BYU-I. Any of my friends from BYU-I, do you know this girl? I'd love to be able to call this drawing by her name... |
How about you? What is your favorite subject matter to draw/paint/build etc?
Thanks for hanging out, friends!
